At the always marvellous Auburn Avenue Pastor’s Conference this past week the inimitable Douglas Wilson complained that he is tired of hearing of the need to get out of the box. He said that some people need to stay in the box. Indeed.
Who can disagree? The so-called “Federal Vision” controversy showed that a lot of people are stuck in tetrahedra and could use a few more facets. If they could get out of mere four-sided thinking into something more, like a six-sided box, that would be good. For those of us more mature in our understanding, it might be good to try to think outside the dodecahedron and begin to think in the icosahedron.
There is more in heaven and earth than is dreamt of in pseudo-traditionalist “Reformed” thought.
Would you be willing to name some names of those you believe should stay in the box? Are you saying that the pseudo-traditionalists need to get out of the box? Please interpret.
Good to see this back and going.
Comment. Berman and Leithart.
Berman, ‘Law and Revolution,’ Introduction, says over and over that multiplicity or reflexivity of standpoints were/are necessary.
Leithart in ‘Solomon’ says postmoderns are (something like) fractal, while moderns are on a checkeboard. (That last I’ve synthesized).

Let’s get some outside the box posts on this blog!
I’d like to see some ignorant people get out of the tetrahedron and into a box. It would be an improvement. Names need not be mentioned here, as they are all over the internet and at the ends of various grossly ignorant “reports.”
I am always stupified when stalwarts are so curmudgeonous. (And at the same time humbled b/c I, too, am only where I am at by God’s grace.) Who am I to have been brought out of the box by such rebels as Wilson (who was FV b4 FV was cool) and JbJ (who was cool b4 that!)?
I am interviewing at a classical school for an admin position and will be grilled over this stuph and am a bit put on my haunches: these guys (PCAers) are well meaning and God fearing but stuck in the box. I talked with another REC fellow who had to wade through their tirade and was just dumbfounded at the truncated view of the covenant.
Anyway, if you think of me in the next 2 weeks, I’m sure my third interview will occur.
